Vila Nova de Poiares

This is our local town and although fairly quiet it has all the amenities you require. These include banks, post office, pharmacy,sports centre,newsagent, hospital and a weekly market.

Coimbra

Birthplace of six Kings and the old capital of Portugal. Fantastic romanesque architecture of the Cathedral. University with superb old buildings and a stunning library. Old Convent of Santa Clara. Very modern shopping facilities combined with old traditional shops. Tourist bus trip well worth exploring.

Bucaco Palace and Forest

Built as a summer residence for the Royal Family and completed in 1907, both the Crown Prince and King were assinated shortly after it's completion. Now a hotel with an outstanding reputation for it's Edwardian charm and architecture. The forest has 250 acres of woodland and is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers from all over the world. It is here that Wellington was attacked by the French in 1810.

Conimbriga

Conimbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements in Portugal and is classified as a National Monument. Restaurant / Cafe, Museum and Shop.
